Check out Cargo Spectrum’s new comedic short logistics film “Handled” demonstrating the complexities of moving commodities around the world via air cargo, ocean shipping & ground transport:
When a New York City mobster has 3 urgent shipments to move, he calls in Shanghai-based Johnny to make things right. Under pressure; Johnny attempts to transport luxurious wines from London to Calgary, mining equipment from Vancouver to Sydney & a huge statue from Rome to Toronto. Johnny’s assignment is further complicated by his lack of logistics experience. He overcomes the obstacles by finally doing it ‘da “wise guy” way’.
Note: This is film is fictitious.

Cargo Spectrum is an Approved Participant in Transport Canada’s Air Cargo Security Program.
Transport Canada is working with the air cargo industry to implement the ACS Program in order to mitigate risks to civil aviation. Strengthening Canadian air cargo security and making it comparable to the air cargo security practices of the United States and other key trading partners will help our economy and position Canada as a strong partner in global efforts against terrorism.
Contact Cargo Spectrum for more information on our role as an Approved Participant in Transport Canada’s Air Cargo Security Program.
As an Approved Participant in Transport Canada’s Air Cargo Security (ACS) Program, Cargo Spectrum has prepared and organized acceptance procedures to accommodate Transport Canada’s new regulatory measures for the Transportation Security Clearance Program (TSCP) for cargo being transported onboard passenger aircrafts effective January 1st, 2013. 100% of cargo transported onboard a domestic, international or trans-border passenger flight departing a CATSA-designated Canadian airport must be secured and confirmed at the air carrier level as having met security requirements. For domestic and international passenger flights, cargo must come from a Registered Shipper or be actively screened using approved methods by either an Approved Participant in the ACS Program or the air carrier.
Failure to register as a Registered Shipper will subject your air cargo to additional handling, screening, fees and delays. If you are already a Registered Shipper, there is no change to your current shipment procedures (except for shipments bound for Israel, Transport Canada requires that all shipments be screened regardless of shipper’s security status.

Dangerous goods are solids, liquids or gases that are flammable, explosive or toxic to people, other living organisms, property or the environment. Manufacturers, shippers & transporters MUST know what they are shipping & properly identify, classify, pack, mark, label & document according to Transport Canada & international dangerous goods regulations.
The 9 dangerous goods classes are: Class 1 Explosives, Class 2 Gases, Class 3 Flammable Liquids, Class 4 Flammable Solids, Class 5 Oxidizing Substances & Organic Peroxides, Class 6 Poisonous & Infectious Substances, Class 7 Radioactive Materials, Class 8 Corrosives & Class 9 Miscellaneous Products or Substances.
Logistics/freight forwarding personnel are required to be adequately trained & maintain valid dangerous goods qualifications at all times in order to properly prepare & process dangerous goods shipments. Regulations stipulate anyone who handles, offers for transport, transports, imports, exports or comes in contact with dangerous goods, must ensure consignors, carriers & consignees have met all applicable requirements. They need to develop an awareness of the legal requirements, operational restrictions & governing entities to know how to champion dangerous goods compliance standards. The ability to identify any weak links in handling procedures & safety issues & apply them in the workplace to maximize cargo handling is an obligation under Canadian law requiring logistics staff to be trained on the aspects of dangerous goods demanded by their work duties. Non-compliance can result in delays at the time of release of goods, the suspension of privileges & penalties.
Cargo Spectrum…let us be YOUR Freight Concierge today!
Like a freight train coming down the track, eManifest is coming at us.
eManifest is part of the Advance Commercial Information (ACI) program to allow the trade community to electronically report & transmit pre-arrival cargo information & conveyance data.
Members of our team joined representatives of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for a seminar to get the most current updates in the rapidly changing world of advanced commercial information as they presented the future of eManifest in Canada.
The CBSA spoke about the latest updates on the changes we expect over the next year. We listened to the latest thinking on cargo control, the impacts eManifest may have on how we move goods today & how our business must be prepared to move data & goods tomorrow. We learned how the regulations are changing & the new definition of ‘freight forwarder’ in the Customs Act. They walked us through eManifest marine & air scenarios to prepare us for the new reporting requirements, new data elements & reporting responsibilities, to help us plan for the new timelines when freight forwarders will ‘deconsolidate electronically in advance’ of loading overseas.
It’s all about making the border smarter & more secure to get the right information at the right time to enhance the ability of the CBSA to identify potential threats to Canada, while facilitating the movement of low-risk shipments across the border. eManifest will be a virtually paperless process that starts before shipments reach the border. The collection & risk assessment of advance commercial information, sent electronically to the CBSA, will allow low-risk shipments to be identified prior to arrival & processed in a more efficient manner upon arrival in Canada. eManifest…a new normal.
